Worker dies after being found unconscious at Tuas Port site

SINGAPORE – A worker died after being found unconscious at the construction site of Phase Two of Tuas Port on Saturday evening (July 29).

The body of the missing worker was found at around 9 am on Saturday, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said in a media statement on Monday.

A worksite safety coordinator administered CPR to the man, and he was later taken to hospital by the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF).

The man was found to be an employee of the Penta Ocean-Hyundai-Boskalis joint venture.

Investigations are currently underway. Both the MPA and the contractor provide support to the family of the deceased.

The second phase of the huge port of Tawas

construction work for The second phase of the Tawas Mega Port started for the first time on July 4, 2019. The project will oversee the construction of an 8.6km quay constructed with 227 caissons to be manufactured on site.

MPA awarded the Tuas Terminal Phase II reclamation project to the Penta Ocean-Hyundai-Boskalis joint venture in 2018.

The mega port will be developed in four phases, with the second phase being the largest to be reclaimed at 387 hectares.

According to the MPA, all container operations in Singapore will be integrated into Tuas Terminal by 2040.
