August 6 (UPI) – And the controversial Westboro Baptist Church, based in Kansas, claimed that Hawaii would be “totally devastated” on Sunday.

The Westboro Baptist Church said, “Hawaiian churches are condemned to lies about an eternal God.” in the current situation Announcing a protest at three churches in Hawaii. “Observers should (and will) pronounce the warning publicly on Sunday.”

Westboro Baptist Church said its members will picket outside Grace Bible Church and King’s Cathedral in Kahului as well as the Wiloko Union Church in Wiloko.

It was not immediately clear why the church had traveled from Topeka to Maui to protest the three congregants or how the church believed Hawaii would be destroyed. UPI has reached out to the churches for comment.

The city of Westboro has been known for its controversial protests. In 2012, the church said its members plan to sit Sandy Hook Elementary School where 28 people, including 20 children, were shot and killed just days earlier.

“Westboro will pick up Sandy Hook Elementary to sing praises to God for the glory of His work in executing His rule,” member Shirley Phelps-Roper said in 2012 before her Twitter account was hacked by Anonymous’ Cosmo the God.

The hacker group then published private details about members of the church, which has been known for its long-standing vitriol on LGBTQ+ issues.
