Hazardous weather kicks off the work week Monday with what forecasters call an “enhanced” risk of severe thunderstorms late in the day into the evening.
The National Weather Service in Wakefield said on Sunday that the downpour would not have caused any damage. The main threat will be the winds that will accompany the storms, which are expected to start around 4 pm, and high winds can damage trees and buildings, and disrupt electrical service.
Monday dawn should be a typical early August day in the region with early morning temperatures in the low 70s. As the day wears on, those temperatures will climb into the low 90s with the heat index giving the day a “real feel” at 101 degrees.
Severe weather is expected in the late afternoon as a cold front begins to creep across the region. Rain and storms linger until 11 p.m. and become more lonely after that.
On a scale of 1-5 with 1 being the lowest, the NWS puts the risk of severe weather on Monday afternoon at 3, which is “improved”. Also known as “orange,” the “enhanced” NWS is defined as “an area of greater coverage of severe storms of varying levels of intensity.”
Tuesday will be dry and sunny with a high of around 90, but winds will still be around and gust up to 25 mph, the NWS predicts.
