Police said five people were wounded in a shooting in Michigan, with two victims in critical condition

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A shooting early Sunday morning in Michigan left five people injured, including two in critical condition, police said.

The Lansing Police Department said in a statement that officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1 a.m.

Police said the five victims who were taken to a hospital by the Lansing Fire Department ranged in age from 16 to 26.

There was a large crowd at the scene when the officers arrived, prompting the Lansing police to seek help from other jurisdictions. Police said several people were arrested and officers found multiple firearms.

In February, a gunman killed three students and injured five others in a Shooting at Michigan State University in eastern neighboring Lansing. The students hid in place for four hours on campus about 90 miles (145 kilometers) northwest of Detroit while hundreds of officers searched for the shooter. Suspect Anthony McCray, 43, killed himself when police confronted him near his home in Lansing.
